Martin-Style Dreadnaught Acoustic Template Set
Are you looking to build an acoustic guitar in the style of a classic dreadnaught? Building this style may be easier than you think. Making a guitar with this template set based on the famous D28 will certainly be a lot easier and more accurate. Scale length is 25.34" 643.6mm with a 14 fret body join, nut width 44.5mm and string spread at the saddle is 54mm.

The soundboard/back template provides for accurate outline and brace layout for the soundboard and back. It also includes the locations of the scallop peaks in the scalloped braces. The separate brace scallop profile templates provide typical scallop profiles for the X-brace and the tone bars.
* We have also designed a soundboard template with lobes at the waist to facilitate repeatable and accurate alignment with forms and body moulds. This soundboard template can be ordered separately in the dropdown list.
The fretboard/neck template provides plan dimension of the fretboard and neck and includes pinholes to facilitate the accurate location of fret markers on both the front of the fretboard and also the side dots. Guitar Templates recommends that you use our fret slotting templates for accurate fret slotting.
The body side profile template is supplied in 2 pieces to facilitate convenient shipping. The two pieces join at the waist and can be held together with tape (which is sufficient and recommended) or they can be glued with a suitable glue (e.g. CA glue).
** We have two Martin-style headstock options. The traditional headstock with sharp corners and straight taper to the neck or a more modern version with rounded corners and curved taper to the neck. These templates, like all our layout templates, are made of 4.5mm clear acrylic, precision laser cut, etch lines, and keyholes for the accurate layout of your build. The etched lines are placed on the surface closet to the guitar to ensure the most accurate transfer of measurements.
Note: The dimensions of templates on this site are often created for accuracy based on original models however this is not the case in some templates and therefore we do not guarantee these templates to work with original parts. We also chose to design elements to be compatible across multiple models which means not all parts are the exact dimensions as the original guitar the templates were based on.
